Job Summary

Creates and/or oversees the design, modification, daily maintenance and development of systems infrastructure components and tools used by NOC, SE, and customers. Leads detailed and documented design, deployment and testing

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Contributes to, is familiar with and adheres to design and infrastructure standards and operations processes. Promotes and enforces adoption of standards.
  • Takes requirements from the business and translate them into program/systems in order to meet business objectives
  • Provides technical escalation expertise for infrastructure system problems. Provides design expertise for complex solutions. Creates or contributes to cost-benefit analysis of competing solution designs.
  • Organizes project activities that may require interdepartmental meetings and communication, ensuring completion of the program/project is on schedule and within budget constraints. Presents and drives ideas, schedules and projects within cross functional group and external partners; influences the strategy and direction of the team.
  • May manage programs or projects involving department or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of an internal or external project into a finished state. May lead or manage work of others; may have a small team of direct reports.
  • Maintains an awareness of developments in emerging technologies and disciplines relating to present and future products and solutions through personal research, continuing education, seminars/trade shows and related activities.

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • Network performance: Service Uptime/MTTR/MTBF/Security events, SLAs (delivery time, RTD/Packet Loss/Jitter etc)
  • New products / services tested and deployed, and acceptance in various markets
  • Additional Customer and revenue enabled
  • Cost savings through consolidation of POPs/equipment etc
  • Cost of delivering services (cost / mbps, cost / port),other Opex parameters, network capacity utilization and efficiency.

 

 

Skills and experience ( “E” denotes Essential & “D” Denotes Desirable)

Technical/Functional Skills

 

  • Experience in Data or carrier environment, wholesale or large ISP.
  • Should have worked with MS package, Visio, EXCEL, etc..
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to initiate and establish good relationships with peers.
  • Occasional travel to various work sites and minimal long-distance travel may be required.

Experience

 

  • Minimum of 5 years systems administration experience, with 3-5 in a lead design/deployment role. 1-3 years experience in managing complex projects. Thorough understanding and knowledge of a specific area of technology Large-scale integrated systems experience In-depth knowledge of all phases of systems administration and design including understanding of competing technologies, operating systems and networking
  • Strong operations background with experience in telecommunications Strong ability to interface with customers and technical staff. Strong customer-facing skills (oral, written and verbal skills); ability to define and articulate complex process flows.
  • Knowledge of different monitoring system and infrastructure, security, etc…

 

Education ( “E” denotes Essential & “D” Denotes Desirable)

 

High School Diploma or GED. (E)

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Telecommunication) or above. (D)

 

Additional Requirements

 

Programming (C/C++) and scripting skills (Shell, PHP, Perl, Cacti), Solaris, Linux, Bash, some Unix admin, Tomcat Apache and Web Dev
